Department of Computer Systems, Networks and Cybersecurity (503)

The Department of Computer Systems, Networks and Cybersecurity has been a graduating department in two areas and five specializations for more than 20 years. For 4 years, students receive basic higher education, study in bachelor's programs, including fundamental and professionally oriented training.

Fundamental preparation: higher mathematics, discrete mathematics, probability theory and mathematical statistics, physics, programming and IT fundamentals, data models and structures, theory of algorithms and calculation methods.

Professionally-oriented training:

  • Software technologies (programming, computer architecture, object-oriented programming, system programming, system software, database organization, distributed and parallel computing, cloud and mobile solutions, WEB design, etc.)
  • Programmable components and technologies (computer microelectronics and circuitry, computer logic, microprocessor-based LSIs, peripherals, computer-aided design of computer systems, etc.)
  • System and network technologies (computer systems and networks, system analysis and CASE-technologies, reliability and fault tolerance of computer systems and networks, information security and protection, etc.)

After defending their qualification work, they are awarded the first diploma of basic higher education with the appropriate qualification of a bachelor in computer engineering (security of information and communication systems). Based on the results of studies, bachelors have the opportunity to receive a complete higher education with a master’s qualification and a second diploma in accordance with international standards.

The scientific and teaching staff of the department includes 9 doctors and 27 candidates of sciences, 10 professors and 21 associate professors, highly qualified teachers with practical experience in developing modern software systems and computer networks. Among the teachers of the department are honored inventors of Ukraine, laureates of the prize of the President and Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. Practical training is carried out on the basis of modern laboratories of programming technologies, system software, network, web and cloud technologies, microprocessors and programmable logic, the Internet of things, information protection and industrial safety, mobile smart systems, as well as a critical computing center, Cisco Academy, laboratories EPAM, STM, etc.

Students studying at the department regularly participate and are winners of regional, Ukrainian and international competitions and competitions in programming and computer systems, have grants from national and world funds, IT companies.

The scientists of the department, together with graduate students and students, carry out theoretical research and practical development in the field of reliable and safe software systems and computer networks for critical and commercial applications, regularly participate in international conferences, European projects, and startup competitions.

The department runs an interdisciplinary scientific and technical seminar "Critical Computer Technologies and Systems", and intensive training is being conducted for candidates (PHD) and doctors (DRS) of sciences.

The department has close scientific and technical ties with more than 30 high-tech enterprises in Kharkov, Ukraine, Great Britain, the USA, Germany, Sweden and other countries, participates in real projects in the field of developing software systems, computer technologies for the aerospace, energy industries, banking, medicine and etc.

Teachers, graduate students and students of the department undergo internships at the universities of London, Newcastle, Leeds (England), Naples, Pisa (Italy), Stockholm (Sweden), New York, North Carolina (USA), etc.

According to the reviews of firms and organizations where our graduates work (in more than 15 countries), it can be argued that the department and university provide high fundamental, professionally oriented and special training.

This allows them to successfully solve practical problems in one of the most dynamic information technology markets already at the senior courses and after graduation.
