FP7 KhAI-ERA

Integration of the National Aerospace University "KhAI" into the European Scientific Space.

Theme of the work program: : INCO.2011-6.1

Funding Scheme: Coordination and Support Actions

Project Duration: December 2011-November 2014

The overall goal of the KhAI-ERA project is the integration of the KhAI National Aerospace University into the European scientific space. To achieve this goal, it is planned to develop cooperation, set up joint experiments and conduct parallel research in conjunction with European research and innovation organizations working in the three strongest areas in the field of aviation, astronautics and information technology:

  • A. Composite materials
  • B. Advanced aircraft assembly technology
  • C. Reliable embedded systems

KhAI is the only university in Ukraine that provides a full cycle of higher education in the aerospace field. More than 1,146 researchers and 700 teachers work at the KhAI and about 12,000 students study. KhAI researchers regularly publish articles in international journals, as well as present the results of their research at international conferences. KhAI is a major research center with great potential for integration into the European scientific space, as evidenced by participation in many national and international projects, such as:

  • Development of riveting technology with high-strength titanium rivets of composites jointly with the Boeing company (funding from the STCU);
  • Development of the technology for assembling the Sukhoi Superjet 100 airframe (financed by Sukhoi);
  • Graduate and postgraduate studies in the field of “Critical computing in the aerospace industry” (financing under the Tempus program).

KhAI-ERA project is based on the existing experience of KhAI as a research center and is aimed at strengthening partnerships with 4 leading European research organizations: Institute of Aerospace Engineering of the Technical University in Brno (IAE-BUT), Fraunhofer Institute for Production and Automation (Fraunhofer- IFF), Center for Integrated Electronic Systems and Biomedical Engineering, Tallinn University of Technology (CEBE-TUT) and Intelligence Consulting Ltd. Relations will be strengthened through the exchange of knowledge, the setting up of joint experiments and the development of trainings for KhAI researchers in the field of composite materials, advanced aircraft assembly technologies, reliable implemented systems and RP7. It also provides for the dissemination of project results and the development of a strategy to support the KhAI.
